EXPLORER MANUAL

A comprehensive guide to reshaping the world on Funky Map.

1. Planting Your Signal

Funky Map is built on user contributions. "Planting" is the act of dropping a permanent audio marker on the global map.

Step-by-Step Guide:
  1. Login: You must be authenticated via Google or Twitch to plant a signal. This ensures quality and accountability.
  2. Navigate: Go to the Map page and drag the view to your desired location. You do not need to be physically present there.
  3. Target: Click (Desktop) or Tap (Mobile) exactly where you want the sound to live.
  4. Upload: A modal will appear. Select your audio file (MP3/WAV/OGG) or choose a Preset.
  5. Describe: Give your signal a creative title (e.g., "Rain on Tin Roof" instead of "Audio 1").

*Note: All uploads are scanned for copyright and harmful content. Violations result in an immediate ban.

2. The Neural Net (Voting)

The map is alive. It breathes based on community feedback. Unlike static maps, Funky Map changes based on what users enjoy.

👍 Upvoting (Amplifying)

When you upvote a sound, its Radius on the map physically expands. Highly rated sounds become visible from higher zoom levels (like looking from a satellite), effectively "conquering" territory.

👎 Downvoting (Damping)

Sounds with negative scores shrink. If a signal reaches a critical negative threshold (-5), it is automatically removed from the public layer.

3. Troubleshooting

We support .MP3, .WAV, .OGG, and .M4A files. The maximum file size is 20MB. For longer recordings, please compress your file before uploading.

If the "Find Me" button does not fly to your location:
  • Check if your browser has permission to access Location Services.
  • Disable VPNs or Proxies that might mask your IP.
  • On mobile, ensure GPS is enabled in system settings.
