About FunkyMap
FunkyMap is an interactive sound map. Instead of showing you what a place looks like, it lets you hear it. Anyone can explore the map for free, discovering audio signals planted at real locations around the world — a busy market, a quiet forest trail, a subway platform at rush hour. Hover over a pin, and a place stops being a dot on a screen and becomes a moment you can actually listen to.
Why Sound Matters
Maps have always shown us what the world looks like. They rarely tell us what it sounds like. The hum of a city, the particular silence of a desert, the rhythm of a coastal town at low tide — these are as much a part of a place's identity as its skyline, yet traditional maps leave them out entirely. FunkyMap exists to capture that missing layer of the world, one signal at a time.
How FunkyMap Works
Anyone can browse the map and listen to what's already been shared, with no account required. To plant your own audio signal, vote on other people's contributions, or build a public profile, you can sign in using your existing Google or Twitch account. Once signed in, you can upload an audio recording, pair it with a location and a short description, and share it with the wider community. Who's Behind FunkyMap
FunkyMap is created and maintained by Abbas Vosoughi, an independent developer based in Austria. What started as a small side project has grown into a platform used by people planting sounds from cities and landscapes around the world.
